Super Duck Comic

This is a 6-page Super Duck comic that was reprinted in Pat the Brat Digest #1 back in 1980. I'm not sure where or when it originally appeared. And since the scans are from a digest, the color dots are big and the whole thing looks kind of lousy. ENJOY

UPDATE: According to this post at The Beat, Joe Edwards, regular artist on Super Duck, passed away last Thursday, 2/8. I presume he did this story, but I'm not sure. Either way, R.I.P. Joe Edwards.

Labels: Archie Comics, cartooning, comics, Super Duck

There's such a hostile subtext to these Super Duck stories! It surprises me that Joe Edwards drew these, since he was the one behind "Lil' Jinx" a bit later. We know that Crumb liked them as a kid, right? I think I read that somewhere.

I've only read two Super Duck stories, but the hostility in this one is way more than just subtext, it's TEXT-text!

I've never studied Li'l Jinx at all, so I have no idea, but they look much different.

Apparently, Dan Clowes took the named of the Dan Clowes rviewer in Ice Haven, Harry Naybors, from a character in Super Duck, Harry Naybor. The other story from this same digest has him in it, and I'll post it sometime.

*LOL* As I recall, the Super Duck stories were all that way!

And I may be in the minority on this, but I'd like to see more "Pipsqueak"! Who drew those?
Anyone?
Anyone??

I don't remember this artwork and quite honestly it doesn't look like my Dad's drawing style. (I could be wrong, it's been 50+ years since he did Supe)
