How Animated Cartoons Were Made
Here's a few pages from The Complete Guide to Professional Cartooning by Gene Byrnes. The text in this section is credited to Fred Quimby, producer of most (or all?) of MGM's 40s and 50s cartoon shorts, but most likely written by somebody else. Lots of photos of late-40s MGM staff, including Joe Barbera, Bill Hanna, Tex Avery and Scott Bradley. Also, model sheets, paint mixers and more. Hope you like it!
Let me know you're interested and I'll try to post more from this great book...

Hello David
Would you lend this book to the ASIFA-Hollywood Animation Archive to do high resolution scans? This is important stuff, and I'd like to add it to our digital archive.
Thanks!

I just wanted to point out to your readers that on the fourth page (page 243) the "Plant Supervisor" is Carman "Max" Maxwell (long-time associate of Hugh Harman and Rudy Ising -- and also from Kansas City) and (in case he appears unfamiliar) the animator is Irv Spence. How I wish they'd have more descriptive notations about photos!!!
When I was a kid I used to borrow this book from the library - often. I'd thumb through it at least once a week to get a buzz from some of those pictures. The shot of both sides of the cel of Tom in tuxedo always did it for me. Thanks for sharing.
I'm interested! please post as much as you can of it! thanks a lot!
please post it all!

Tahnks for the delight
